I chose to submit Eva and Jack's session to Rocky Mountain Bride, so here is the excerpt from our session I sent them. And as an aside, this was probably my favorite session to shoot AND edit to date.

For their engagement session, Jack and Eva wanted to go back to Emerald Lake, where he had proposed. The drive was so far away, and we were short on time with coordinating everyone’s schedules, that we decided to drive up to Red Lodge, a quaint mountain town just 45 minutes from where we all live in Billings, Montana. On an unusually cool afternoon in June, we climbed into Jack’s truck, and headed for the Beartooth Mountains, just south of Red Lodge. On our way through Red Lodge, we passed a field of fiercely bright poppies in bloom, alongside an abandoned house. As we climbed out of the car, and scampered into the field, hoping no neighbors would catch us, the sky darkened and we could see rain in the distance. Jack and Eva stood amongst the poppies and cuddled in the grass as I shot our first set of pictures, while keeping a close eye on the clouds moving towards us.

Giddy from such a fun first backdrop, we packed up and drove towards the mountains, hoping for an eventual sunset. Our initial plan was to shoot part way up the pass, in one of the forested valleys, but with the dark sky we knew we needed more light. We climbed the Beartooth highway, and watched the temperature drop slowly from 60 degrees to 32 degrees. By the time we reached the top at 10,000 ft, snow started swirling around us, and we knew we wouldn’t last long in chacos and raincoats. Jack and Eva jumped out of the car, and huddled beside the road against a backdrop that looked otherworldly. We shot for about five minutes, climbed into the car to warm up, and ran outside for another five. They held each other close, noses slowly turning red, and wind whipping their beautiful hair. For the last set, Jack pulled out his ukulele and sung to Eva in the swirling snow. We didn’t get our sunset or summer photos we’d planned on, but none of us cared. I was able to capture Eva and Jack’s intimate and beautiful relationship with the most dramatic of backdrops.
